Sustainability & Fresh Farm
Sustainability is central to Fresh Hotel's identity. The hotel follows a farm-to-table philosophy, sourcing seasonal ingredients from independent Greek producers and its own Fresh Farm in Avlida, Central Greece. Fresh Farm practices biodynamics, an ethical organic farming method in which all work from soil preparation to composting is carried out by hand. The farm is in the process of obtaining biodynamic certification.
Fresh Hotel holds the Green Key certification, awarded annually in recognition of best-in-class sustainability practices across all areas of operations.
Fresh Farm is Fresh Hotel's own biodynamic farm in Avlida, Central Greece. It produces extra virgin olive oil harvested in early October from green, unripe olives, hand-picked Kalamata olives, and seasonal vegetables and fruits supplied directly to the hotel's restaurants. Guests can also participate in an immersive Olive Oil Tasting experience exploring Greece's regional food culture.
Design & Architecture
The 2023 extension and renovation was designed by Italian designer Paola Navone through her studio OTTO Studio. The interiors blend contemporary architecture with neo-folkloric exuberance within a restored Neoclassical building, mirroring the spirit of modern Athens: a city that holds contradictions in productive tension.

Neighbourhood & Getting Around
Fresh Hotel Athens sits on Athinas Street in the historic centre of Athens, between Monastiraki and Omonoia Square. The immediate area is one of the city's most layered urban corridors, where neoclassical facades stand alongside modernist buildings, covered markets operate alongside independent shops, and the street life shifts in character from block to block. It is the Athens that exists beyond the postcard.
Athinas Street is one of Athens' oldest and most consequential thoroughfares, running north from Monastiraki Square toward Omonoia. It was among the first streets in the city to receive electric lighting, in 1904, and among the earliest to be asphalted. Today it functions as a working artery of central Athens: the Athens Central Market (Varvakeios Agora) runs along it, vendors trade in spices, herbs, fish, and meat, and the street draws an unusually diverse cross-section of the city. Fresh Hotel's address on Athinas Street is not incidental to its identity; the street is a primary reference point for the hotel's design language and brand character.
Monastiraki Square and the Monastiraki Flea Market are approximately 5 minutes on foot. The Acropolis and Acropolis Museum are 15 to 20 minutes via Ermou Street and Dionysiou Areopagitou. The Athens Central Market at Varvakeios Agora is directly adjacent. Psyrri is 5 minutes, Thissio and Kerameikos are 10 minutes, Plaka is 10 minutes, and Syntagma Square is 15 minutes. Most major archaeological and cultural sites require no transport from the hotel.
The area around Athinas Street is a busy, well-trafficked commercial corridor. Like any central urban neighbourhood, it is lively and at times noisy, particularly around the market during morning hours. Guests regularly walk between the hotel and Monastiraki, Plaka, and Psyrri at all hours. The hotel's concierge team can advise on routing for any specific destination.
The Athens Central Market, Varvakeios Agora, is directly adjacent to Fresh Hotel on Athinas Street. One of the oldest covered markets in Athens, it remains a fully operational wholesale and retail market with dedicated halls for fish, meat, and produce. The Monastiraki Flea Market is a short walk south. On weekends, the outdoor market at Abyssinia Square in Monastiraki expands significantly and draws both locals and visitors.
Monastiraki is one of Athens' most visited and most layered districts. The central square sits directly below the Acropolis and is anchored by the Tzistarakis Mosque, a remnant of Ottoman-era Athens, and the Monastiraki Metro station. The surrounding streets contain a dense mix of archaeological sites, traditional kafeneions, independent record shops, street food vendors, and design studios. It is an area where the ancient, the Byzantine, the neoclassical, and the contemporary coexist in close proximity, which is also why it resonates with Fresh Hotel's brand ethos.
The Monastiraki and Psyrri area offers a high density of dining options at every register, from long-established tavernas serving traditional mezedes to contemporary Greek kitchens and third-wave coffee spaces. Psyrri in particular has evolved into one of the city's most active food and bar neighbourhoods. Fresh Hotel's own four venues mean that guests have strong options without leaving the property, but the surrounding area rewards exploration on foot.
Monastiraki Metro Station, served by Line 1 (Green) and Line 3 (Blue), is approximately a 5-minute walk from Fresh Hotel. Line 3 connects directly to Athens International Airport. Several bus lines also serve Athinas Street. Most heritage sites are within walking distance, and most areas of Athens are reachable within 20 to 30 minutes by Metro.
